Proposal:
These oil paintings are urban-scapes of Johannesburg. They are of spaces accessible and inaccessible to people; of ownership and dispossession; of meanings and loss of meanings. They are my visions of mostly the eastern suburbs of this city.
Biography:
I have painted for most of my life. In Port Elizabeth, in Johannesburg, in London, and now back again in Johannesburg since 1982. I studied painting at St. Martin’s school of art and, photography at the Polytechnic of Central London. I exhibited at the Arts Lab and St Martin’s in London. I worked as the photographer and designer at ‘Learn & Teach’ magazine in the eighties. In 1995 I joined Gauteng Health Dept doing their AIDS media for nine years. I had work on the ‘Tributaries’ exhibition at New Town and exhibited at ‘Nerina Trogon’ in Braamfontein and at Herman Niebuhr’s studio in Fordsburg.
