Proposal:
In my process of creating a narrative, it is always me coming face to face with my constant consternation.
I am confronting those persistent fears that have kept me up at night. It is the excessive thinking that leads to worry and apprehension, that alters how i processes emotions and behaviour .At times a person faces potentially harmful or worry triggers, feelings of anxiety are not only normal but necessary for survival. It’s the wheel of the world, right?
As we enroot things become increasingly stressful and that strain is coursed by us thinking of the substandard scenario that our life’s can take. Because as human being we can never be content with what we have, we want more but more comes with a lot of apprehension. They say do what makes you agitated and that will indicate if you have what it takes to make it. As humans we take delight in putting ourselves in positions where its survival of the fittest. And all these emotions come into play especially to the life of an artist who has to deal with constantly thinking of new creative works to put out good solid works.
And that requires a lot of you mental energy and with that comes doubt and second guessing yourself /work. You overwork your mental capacity to a point where it feels like you’re going round and around.
I’m inspired by my everyday life and my nightmares and my anxiety play a huge role.
Biography:
My name is Charity Vilakazi.
I tell stories through photography. I live in Johannesburg but I call Durban home.
When I was a kid my grandmother told me that I have a very imaginative mind. That’s why I created villa world. My creative space where I do all my brainstorming.
I use to go to work with my father when they were shooting ads or shows and I loved every moment of, and I would be lucky enough that they would ask me to be part of what they were doing and my shyness would go away because I felt like I’m in dreamland .My father is the one who introduce me to the photography world. He is the one who showed me all the ropes of having your work seen. So he saw how much I enjoyed being behind the camera so to show how much he loved me he registered me in a photography school in Newtown, Johannesburg.
I studied and fell more in love with photography at the Market Photo Workshop.
I have since been part of few group exhibitions like (in)sight an all women show at through the lens collective and Joburg fringe. And I have the pleasure of being part of the between 10 and 5 A3E program.
Where I had my first experience of what an exhibition is. When some of my work got chosen to showcase in a student exhibition.
The photography that I create is very much abstract but also cinematically inspired. I love what I do and it gives me everlasting possibilities.
