NEIL BADENHORST (b. 1995) is an artist and illustrator based in Pretoria. As a child Badenhorst was captivated by stories of other worlds and the creatures and cities they contained. Badenhorst wanted to travel to these different worlds, speak the language of all manner of strange creatures, slay shadowy foes with burning swords and glide among the stars; as an adult these desires remain unchanged. Badenhorst’s practice explores the concepts of crossing the threshold into the other world, as well as that of liminality. He is currently studying towards a Masters in Illustration exploring crisis heterotopias and ritual spaces within illustrated fantasy words.
