Proposal:
I’m interested in spaces we occupy and navigate through. How these spaces influence the people we are and the people we become. I capture social choreography in the city of Joburg.
I tell stories of life through everyday architecture; exposing the politics of the experience of the black body through space, movement and time. My photography interrogates the buildings and spaces around us and the relationship we have with them.
My work marries the frivolous & the profound through capturing the city as it is…..showing only what’s there and nothing more.
Biography:
I’m a self taught photographer trained formally as a chartered accountant. I became interested in photography when I moved to Joburg 2 years ago. Having lived in other cities before (both in South Africa & abroad), I found Johannesburg a very complex and often problematic city, which I surprisingly fell in love with. I started using my love for visual language to document the city in an attempt to process and understand my experiences and existence in this city.
