Proposal:

Infinity is not a place
The photo series “X.Berg – Day and Night” by Ulrich Diezmann first offers aesthetic views of his – and my – neighborhood, far from the hustle and bustle. We look at orthogonal waterways, railways and streets, and on blank walls whose upper edges simulate a horizon.
Does the artist want to seduce us into an aesthetical rest zone? Does he perhaps want to show us the virtues of classical beauty, where mind and matter form a unity? The photos show selected moments, which in their simple compositions relate specific views of the world. A metaphysical level lies beneath complex realities, behind the things.
Nature itself radiates from points of light, from the moon, from lamps, from behind a cloud: day and night. To avoid black and white schemes, Diezmann reduces the color palette to warm and cool: day and night.
In his photos there are very rarely human figures. But even where no human being is present, his presence as a creator is demonstrable in the diagonal and rectilinear structures. Here man and nature meet at the vanishing point or on a linear horizon. Like infinity, these are not real places, but point to the immortality of the soul and art.
