The Printing Girls

Proposal:

Following on from our exciting and successful show at The Fringe last year, we would like to exhibit again this year, and introduce our new artists alongside our original 6 Printing Girls. We have grown, doubled in size in fact, since last year – and can’t wait to show off the amazingly talented new artists we have found for this year’s exhibitions.

This year The Printing Girls would like to introduce workshops alongside their Salon-Style curated exhibition. We have also branched out into “wearable” art, and on sale we will have all sorts of delicious pieces of jewellery, and clothing items. There is something for everyone at our stall!

We would like to book a walled space for our exhibition.
We will supply all the necessary table, chairs, materials etc for the workshops to run smoothly and professionally.

The workshops would teach the following Printmaking Techniques:
• Linocuts, hosted by Carmen Form. Printed on a re-purposed toaster! All materials provided by TPG. Free entrance.
• Watercolour Monotypes, hosted by Amy van den Bergh. Printed on a repurposed pasta machine! All materials provided by TPG. R50 cost for materials.
• Scratchboard etching, hosted by Tarran Sanders. All materials provided by TPG. R150 cost for materials.

Biography:

In 2006, six of us began our degrees at Rhodes University, and by the time we graduated in 2009 we knew much about studio late nights, ink under our nails and living off of tight student budgets. Over the years we kept in touch and celebrated each other’s achievements, and shared in the scary reality is it to pursue a career in the arts. The Printing Girl’s was formed from a place of creative longing, and a united cause – to make art that is true to ourselves, enjoy the beautiful process it takes, and share in the stress and joy of exhibitions (with copious tea and chocolate)!

After 2 successful years of exhibiting as The Printing Girls, we decided to welcome in 7 new members: Tori Stowe, Tarran Sanders, Juliet Dobson, Lisa Nettelton, Nolitha Quma, Sarah Carter, and Cloudia Hartwig.

We are a collective of strong, dedicated female creators. We share a passion for printmaking, but all add our own unique flavours and expertise. We are a celebration of printmaking and the creative challenge it truly is to follow our dreams. Although each of us are active printmakers we also pursue other forms of art making – from painting, to jewellery design.
