Proposal:
I dwell on the female, a neglected & victimized soul.
As life presents its challenges & unfaithfulness to it, I find myself impulsively seeking its’ ideals
on coping from psychological traumas & devastating occurrences that life & man have so viciously brought upon.
As a result, this neglected soul is forced to become as deadly & venomous as life & Karma presents themselves.
The idea of being controlled by ones’ emotions,
To become as sinful,
…as defiant,
…as unladylike,
…as rebellious to social depictions of females is something I deeply desire…….
to reign over man’s filth & thirst for power. …
…
…
I want to become this sinful creature that man describes woman… a lustrous thorn in their eyes.
Biography:
Zama Cebsile Mwandla is a 21 South African feminist visual artist born & raised in KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermarizburg.
She is currently a 4th year Fine Arts student at the University of Witwatersrand.
Mwandla considers herself a continuous living archive of a disturbing history. Her work is a form of protest & self-indulgences that comments on our hierarchical society that dictates & distorts the female body.
Her work is a visual exploration & experimentation of rich vibrant, seductive colours. It contains poetic connotations that depict gruesome, graphic & unusual imagery that portray her imagination of her life & surroundings. Her work embodies psychological effects that infect the minds of rape victims, it leaves no room for rest nor relief due to its explicit nature which does not comfort nor console the viewer.
