Usha Seejarim
The selection of two and three-dimensional artworks have been taken from recent bodies of work that explore concepts of identity with a specific focus on notions of home and the domestic. Donated second-hand household objects were used to create the sculptural pieces that bear the marks of their previous history. Thus each object is culturally loaded, gender specific and striped of their utilitarian function as they are presented as objects of art. The two-dimensional works are illustrations of these ideas through representations of self- portraiture.
